Baccarat has a reputation as a sophisticated, complex game, but the core rules are actually simpler than blackjack. The complexity is mostly ceremonial — the actual decisions a player makes are minimal, which is part of why it suits live dealer streaming so well.
The Three Bets
Every baccarat round comes down to three possible outcomes: Player wins, Banker wins, or Tie. You're betting on which of two hands — "Player" or "Banker" — will total closer to nine, not playing either hand yourself. The Banker bet carries a small commission (typically 5%) on wins because it statistically wins slightly more often; the Tie bet pays much higher odds but happens far less frequently.
How Hands Are Valued
Cards 2 through 9 count at face value, 10s and face cards count as zero, and Aces count as one. When a hand's total exceeds nine, only the last digit counts — a hand of 7 and 8 (totaling 15) counts as five. Whichever hand is closer to nine wins.
The Draw Rules Are Automatic
Unlike blackjack, players don't decide whether to draw a third card — fixed rules determine it automatically based on the first two cards' total. You don't need to memorise these rules to play; the dealer and game interface handle them. Understanding that they're automatic (not a dealer's discretionary choice) is enough to follow along confidently.
Getting Started at the Table
Start with small stakes on the Banker or Player bet while you get comfortable with the pace of live rounds — side bets and pattern-reading systems can wait until you're familiar with the basic flow. See our Games page for what else PlayDash's live casino covers beyond baccarat.
